Trigger finger can significantly impact your daily life, making simple tasks painful and difficult. At Appalachian Orthopedics, we offer minimally invasive, in-office trigger finger release procedures designed to alleviate locking, catching, and discomfort. Performed by Dr. Jason Brashear, Dr. John Holbrook, and Dr. Larry Waldrop at our Johnson City office, this outpatient treatment can help you to return to your normal activities faster and with less disruption to your routine.

What Is Trigger Finger?

Also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, trigger finger is a common condition that occurs when tendons in your fingers or thumb become inflamed or irritated. It causes pain, stiffness, and a sensation of locking or catching when you bend or straighten your finger.

Trigger finger causes pain at the base of the finger or thumb, a clicking or snapping sensation when you move your finger, and stiffness in the finger. Patients often experience difficulty straightening the affected finger, affecting even simple hand movements in everyday life.

Benefits of In-Office Trigger Finger Release

The in-office trigger finger release procedure is typically quick, and you can usually return to your normal activities shortly after. The doctor uses local anesthesia and minimally invasive techniques to release the constriction in the tendon sheath, allowing for improved finger movement and reduced pain with minimal downtime.

Procedures performed in-office such as trigger finger release have certain advantages, including:

  • Convenience and familiar setting – quicker appointment scheduling with more flexibility
  • Cost-effectiveness – lower average cost of in-office procedures than hospital-based procedures
  • Time effectiveness – fewer administrative hurdles in a streamlined process as well as shorter pre-op and post-op wait times
  • Patient comfort – a more personalized and individualized feel to your care
  • Safer – reduced risk of hospital-acquired infections
