Matt Adams, O.P.A.-C.

Matt is originally from Athens, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia. He then attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, where he completed his master’s degree. He worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer during his time at Auburn, managing the medical care of various Auburn University athletic teams. After graduate school, Matt completed an athletic training residency program at the University of South Carolina Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. During this residency, he worked side by side with fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, and sports medicine doctors, gaining valuable knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic injuries. After the completion of the residency program, Matt began working at Appalachian Orthopedics in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he has worked directly with Dr. Bart McKinney since August of 2011.

Matt is a nationally certified and licensed athletic trainer, ATC, a nationally certified orthopaedic physician’s assistant, OPA-C, and a nationally certified orthopaedic technologist, OTC. Matt currently lives in Jonesborough, Tennessee, with his wife, Hayley, and daughter, Avery. Matt is an avid sports fan and can be found on the sidelines of various northeast Tennessee high school football games or ETSU football games, providing medical coverage for our local athletes. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, running, hiking, and other outdoor recreational activities.
